A collection of stylized shingle and moss rooftop procedural materials designed to deliver versatile, high-quality textures for creative 3D environments and cinematic workflows.
Introduction
Shingle & Moss Roof - Stylized Materials
This project presents a stylized, fully procedural Shingle & Moss Roof material created in Substance Designer. Designed to add character and storytelling elements to fantasy or stylized scenes, this material combines wooden shingles with vibrant moss overlays, achieving a worn, organic feel. The setup allows for extensive control over wood wear, color, moss growth patterns, and surface details, creating a versatile material adaptable to various stylized 3D environments.

Project Goals
Explore Organic and Worn Aesthetics: Develop a material that emphasizes natural wear and aging for a rustic look, while retaining a stylized, hand-crafted quality.
Procedural Flexibility: Ensure that each element (wood grain, moss coverage, and shingle shape) is adjustable, allowing for easy customization to fit different artistic needs.
Enhanced Visual Storytelling: Blend vibrant moss patterns with detailed wood textures to evoke a sense of age, nature, and fantasy, ideal for settings that require a lived-in, enchanted look.

Technical Overview
Software: Substance Designer
Methodology: Fully procedural, converting tile patterns into shingle structures with dynamic wood and moss attributes.
Map Outputs: Base Color, Ambient Occlusion, Height, Normal, Roughness.
This material serves as a case study in achieving complex, layered textures procedurally, showcasing how texture artists can convey story elements like wear and nature reclaiming architecture through design alone. It’s an exploration of creating visually rich assets that balance stylization with natural imperfection.
